Historic Player interviews @AFO/Guides-Page/2016

[in no specific order]

[original interviews were made by Thunder/Squid, Claus and the Butcher one by AndrewFord]

 robskate

Started Playing: I played RA from 1997-2011, then I stopped for 11 years and started playing again in 2012. I was surprised to see people sitll playing.

Favorite Tank: Medium Tank

Classification: Tanker.

Best Maps: Path Beyond(PATH), North by Northwest (NXNW), Keep Off The Grass (KOTG), Shallow Grave, Treasure Isle, and for customs; 4c Niklas, Ribbon and I'm also good on maps like M2.

Whats the best defense for a tank rush?: My best defense against  tank rush is to meet them a little way out from base, and Q backwards with their tanks. But be careful not to let them completely pass you.

What's the best way to push in 2v2 p4?: As most people know, on P4, my strategy is almost always straight to 7 wars, or 6 with Allies.

What' have been your other nicknames?: I never really used other nicknames, even in the 90s I was robskate.

Who are the TOP 5 tankers of all time?: I think Ehy is also the best tanker, but in his absence, the next best would be Nastynate. Next best pure tanker at this moment would probably be RC. In the past I would have put JJFJR in the top 5. It's just so hard because so many players are not playing anymore.

Who are the TOP 5 builders of all time?: I think the top builder is Ehy, but since he is not playing at the moment, I would have to say the best is Katsh, then I know Herm is very very good. After that, it's really difficult for me to say.

PRO Tips: Just enjoy the game. I mean, really, you have to be a special player with dedication like RC, AndrewFord, who are both starting to get very good. Lauta is becoming Super Beast in 2v2 P4.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: I, of course, wnat to give a very big thank you to people like FunkyFresh for making CnCNet so great and free and just making such a great platform for us to play on, not just Fucnky, but all the guys who assist him, I do not know all their names, HIfi, nyerguds, Tore, those kinda guys, THANK YOU.

P.S. I'd like to say, that I wish ehy would come back. I considered him one of my very best friends on RA, if not my very best friend, and I wish he would return. We played hundreds of games from 2012-2016

Other games I play: None, I am a decent chess player but have not played in years. I do no play any other PC games.

`Butcher`

Started Playing: 1997, Nov 2015

Favorite Tank: Mad Tank

Classification: Builder

Best Maps: Arena Valley Extreme

Hate about RA:  People who are scared to lose, who act like kids. Hate that I can't see other peoples rooms when I make a game. I'd like to see less focus on tanking and more focus on strategy. Mostly there isn't much to hate, I really like playing RA.

Love about RA: Strategy, lots of good people here. It's a game that keeps challenging you to become better because there is always room to improve even at the highest levels. It's an immortal game, same like chess.

PRO Tips: Play stronger players to improve, don't be scared to lose. If you don't put yourself  in a situation where you are having to catch up, then you never will. It's good to play players at the same level, but you should take time to expand your horizons and play stronger players. Try different things, don't stick to one build.

Favorite Tankers: AndrewFord, RC, Diga, Robs

Favorite Builders: Ninja, Yuzgen

Personal SHOUT-OUT: AndrewFord, Ninja (Katsh), Diga, Bart, ConQuer, fighter, home, motte, leigh, THNDER, the arena crowd that I mostly play with. I learned a lot from AndrewFord and Ninja. Although not playing much with Yuz..... but the advice he gave whenever we played helped greatly.

Other games I play: Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne, Chess (competitively) but not having much time lately.

 d0p3k1llz

Started Playing: I think 3 years but I was just messing around in the beginning

Favorite Tank: APC

Who are the best 5 players, before and now: Top 5: ehy, Nate, Rob, Atom and who am I forgetting

What sets apart the PROS from the SUPER PROS: I've noticed SUPER PROS don't ally right away on P4. They wait until they almost kill one of your infantry before allying. It's like their secret handshake or something. Nah, the SUPER PROS just know a wider variety of tactics/strategies. They know the appropriate counter to any offensive attack and the appropriate attack given the opponent's defense. They also execute it without having to hesitate.

Hate about RA: The fact that the majority of the RA community is toxic. The people here treat each other really poorly for the most part, and it takes a lot away from the fun of the game. This is the reason I will most likely retire soon. There's just nothing positive to gain from being around so much negativity all the time.

What's a good sign of a total noob?: TSaying "ffa" when P4 is loaded.

If you could change one thing about the game, what would you change?: Without a doubt I would do away with the hate and trolling. I don't think it's possible but a more positive RA environment would be great for future players. I'm not saying that I'm not guilty of ever engaging in an unproductive argument with another player. I think for the most part I keep it positive though. There are those that never promote a positive environment and are never kind towards others. I try to refrain from responding to those types of people but it's so difficult not to sometimes. Not responding to the negativity perpetuated by the majority of players on here is without a doubt the hardest thing about RA. It is way harder than any tank rush or base crawl. Oh, I also think that players shouldn't record and post videos of other players without that player's consent. So that would be another change I would make.

What's the best defense against a tank rush?: Best defense for a tank rush? Tank rush first. Again, to me the best defense is a good offense. That's why RA has stood the test of time. For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. If you let someone crawl all the way to your base and you still only have one CY it's over. Basically, you have to match what they're doing but try to be better at it. If someone is crawling towards your base, you should already be CY-ing to counter.

PRO Tips: Watch others play. Learn to Q.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: Thanks to Funky and everyone who keeps the server running. Let's all be kinder to each other and not so quick to lash out at oe another overt this game. Try to be the bigger person and walk away if someone is trying to argue with you. We can tmake CnCNet less of a place of hostility and more of a place of tranquility. Peace everybody.

Other games I play: Texas Hold' em

 Gravediga

Started Playing: 2014.

Favorite Tank: Medium Tank.

Classification: Tanker.

Best Maps: P4, Ribbon, QM, Arena, and many more.

Hate about RA: People who think they are better than they really are do my head in. All of the one map wonders who are scared to play other maps and partners in 2v2s who talk shit and blame other people if they lose.

Love about RA: I love playing cool team games with good PROS I get along well with.

PRO Tips: Tanking should be the first thing you master. DO NO GET STUCK PLAYING ONE MAP! Play different maps and get good in all aspects of RA and all situations, Ask PROS to spectate their games and watch their builds, etc.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: TB for life :D shout out to H3zb, KiCkN, R0b1, LEB, K0ko and Harkit

Other games I play: Poker

[originally published 6/8/2016]

 DocOlds

Started Playing: 1996-2000, then to 2013-present.

Favorite Tank: Heavy Tank.

Classification: Builder.

Best Maps: P4,  V3, Ribbon, Gold Rush, and HJK

Hate about RA: Some players are only good on one map. I think it's important to be a balanced and well rounded player.

Love about RA: I love the real strategy and esprit de corps between players from all over the world.

PRO Tips: Keep practicing and don't be afraid to take advice. We were all noobs at one point.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: Our clan is based on friendship and camaraderie, so if you like to play and make friends, come join us!

Other games I play: Only Red Alert and Tiiberian Sun (Sparingly)

[originally published 25/7/2016]

 Lauta

Started Playing: March 2012

Favorite Tank: Mammoth Tank.

Classification: Builder.

Best Maps: P4, GTK.

Hate about RA: I hate when players have too much ego and when they think they are better than they really are.

Love about RA: I like having fun and playing with people who have a good level.

PRO Tips: Learn to play in team and spectate PRO games.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: Enjoy the game and play for fun.

Other games I play: Ikariam.

[originally published 21/7/2016]

 RC1985

Started Playing: January 2014

Favorite Tank: Medium Tank.

Classification: Usually tanker but I build on P4 when needed.

Best Maps: Not too sure, maybe the other guys have a better view of what I'm good at. I'd say P4, Ribbon, North by Northwest, Path Beyond, and Ridge War.

Hate about RA: Too many players are playing only one map (P4) and not adopting a balanced approach.

Love about RA: Fun nostalgia game, a very diverse community - I like knowing peple from different countries and cultures. It's a close-knit community as well.

PRO Tips: Never be afraid of 1v1s. Too many people take losing so seriously and personally.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: It's been a very fun 2+ years with CnCNet and I thank all who made this possible - Funky and the admins, the PROS and the nubs, the good guys and the trolls.

Other games I play: Tiberian Dawn (Sparingly), a little StarCraft 1 a long time back. I'm not a regular or serious gamer and don't keep up with the latest games.

 AndrewFord

Started Playing: Almost 2 years ago in October.

Favorite Tank: Light Tank.

Classification: Tanker, Duelist.

Best Maps: Keep off the Grass (KotG), Path Beyond, Arena Valley Extreme, Ribbon Wid Ore, and I do well on many money maps and other standard maps. I alaways try to expand my map roster.

Hate about RA: The games' reliance on tanks, this is a love-hate relationship though. I also dislike how my Ford Brand Jeeps [Rangers] aren't use competitively. I don't like stupid feuds either.

Love about RA: The community is hilarious, it's actually fun to be in the RA chat and sometimes I'll read/chat instead of play. As for the game itself, I enjoy the fast-paced action and being able to out-play my opponent with good tank control or some unexpected tactics. Finding new ways to fastest loss people or just playing casual games on maps like Europe.

PRO Tips: Always accept the nicest and harshest of criticisms, it will improve your gameplay a lot. Also, don't be afraid to lose. Every loss makes you better. If you want to become better, practice what you DON'T know. Mainly, work on clicking things faster, pushing yourself and admit your mistakes. Trash talking is not the way to go about things.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: I'd like to shout out Bart, Mono, Butcher, Leigh, my Captain Boy (hes the general), the arena group i play with and the ORA clan and anybody else I missed that I enjoy playing with. Shout out's to all my haters out there as well. Fortunately I don't dwell on hate and animosity, and also Funky and the cncnet team for allowing RA to exist.

Other games I play: League of Legends, Warcraft 3, Red alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge and a bunch of other games.

 [croboy-DP]

Started Playing: Almost 3 years ago.

Favorite Tank: Medium Tank.

Classification: Both.

Best Maps: GTK, P4, Arena Valley.

Hate about RA: I wish someone would fix the lag that choppers cause.

Love about RA: I like all players who show respect. I like that this game has so many strategies and that you need many skills to play this game. You always need to think with your brain to destroy your enemy.

PRO Tips: "Noobs" must spectate many games. Then improve your skills on the PRO grounds, like P4 and Ribbon if you want to play with real PROS.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: CRO PRO BRO.

Other games I play: PES 2016

[originally published 13/7/2016]

 Claus

Started Playing: November 2015. I played the missions when I was 7-8 in the 90's.

Favorite Tank: None yet, still mixing and practicing. But the truck is kind of funny lol. The TRUCK is my favorite.

Classification: I'm trying to become a good tanker, which is a difficult task.

Best Maps: I don't have one yet, I try to play a mixed variety. Finite ore maps helps me focus on mi micro, and Infinite ore maps are good for speed. Personally, I adore Bravo's hipster-designed new-old maps.

Hate about RA: Some people are too arrogant. Arrogance = Pride. A little is not so bad, but too much and too often is just bitch fighting, I personally don't like this. I would prefer to help each other out and share tips and staying C|ool and C|alm :)

Love about RA: I Love the possibilities of getting better in ANY aspect. And I love the people, helping you get to the next level. For example; in P4 PROS turn a game into a Q-Master challenge. When you are conscious of that, you know what to train in order to get better. This small aspect helps you in other games and so on, step by step. I love that you can play this game Chillaxingly.

PRO Tips: ANALYZE. Every situation has many different aspects. Ask yourself: What happened? Why did it happen? Too little defense? Too passive? Too much damage taken? What was it? Ask yourself such questions and find people who ask themselves these questions too and help each other find answers and a way to fix those problems, step-by-step :)

Personal SHOUT-OUT: I would love to see Atom1 and Funky join the website with TA and for H3ZB to join the website with TB :) Cheers and GG

"Instead of imagining what could be or what somebody could be thinking. You should just ask and be DIRECT :) Being direct is the best way and keeps peace together gents and ladies :)"

Other games I play: Pokémon GO lololol

[originally published 1/8/2016]

C|ommander

Started Playing: About 1.5 years ago.

Favorite Tank: When playing with Germany I like the Medium Tank. With the Soviets, I like to Hoard V2s in my base.

Classification: I see myself as a Tanker and a Builder.

Best Maps: GoldRush, Q-Maps, and a "Commando" map made by Bravo. It's a real strategic map which makes 4-Player FFA really fun.

Hate about RA: What I hate the most is the haters and trolls spamming trash daily in the lobby. The last few days have become even more problematic and this community should be kept safe from these toxic people. We are here to play for fun and respect each other.

Love about RA: I love that a game from my childhood survived for all these years and with the contribution of this community, programmers, "investors", we now have the possibility to play it online with a lot of nice, cool and funny guys.

PRO Tips: There are no "noobs", but only newcomers of this great community, which, should first learn the game basics and then develop their own game style; as a general tip, "KEEP CALM AND TANK".

Personal SHOUT-OUT: In the game, we might all be opponents/enemies trying to kill each other, but don't forget: This is only virtual and for fun; So after the game, we should all treat each other with respect and remain friends like before.

Other games I play: FIFA (PlayStation)

[originally published 13/7/2016]

[Crush-TA]

Started Playing: I played when I was a kid, casually, and in skirmish mode but I didn't play online until late 2012, early 2013.

Favorite Tank: Depends on map and situation. Probably medium tank overall.

Classification: A bit of both honestly. Probably known more as a tanker nowadays though. However, I like to be versatile which is one thing that gives me an advantage over other players.

Best Maps: Ribbon 2v2, HJK 1v1, P4 2v2

Hate about RA: All the cheating that has been going on and the complete lack of respect people have for the "Rules"

Love about RA: Saving your building with engineer at the last second. Beating a strong team in a 2v2 when your partner is not-so-strong. Causing panic with Grenadiers.

PRO Tips: Adapt to your opponent. If you find your opponent is always playing the exact same way then work out how to exploit and beat him. The best players have more than 1 strategy up their sleeve.

Personal SHOUT-OUT: Don't do something to somebody else that you wouldn't like done to you. Learn to have a laugh now and then.

Other games I play: Age of Empires 2, Poker.

 ORA-Break

Favorite Map: Keep Off The Grass

Favorite Tank: Mammoth Tank

Favorite Strategy: I like to use Air. I have an Air Master reputation to uphold you know.

Certified PRO: Yes.

What do you recommend for the next generation of PROS?

<ORA-break> Just play alot and observe other players.

TO THE COMMUNITY:

" will it ever end? rossi says im banned at least 30 days. maybe 60 days. because it bothered me that someone could dare expect to be able to tell me "don't say my name again" and that i wouldn't retort back. apparently the retort got the response that Break was looking for out of rossi; his attention. the lobby's attention hopefully too, "hey guys look over here, this guy is about to get banned just for saying someones name." you think i dont have the right to say your f***ing name? seriously? guess what i'm going to do in response? im gonna tell you what to do and ill issue a ludacris threat too "don't say MY name ever again, or i'll rape your family then kill them." hard to even call that a threat, as i have no idea who he is or where he lives, nor have i inquired about either. i might be tempted to take a s**t in a box, put postage on it, and mail it to him, but thats all i would do if i knew his address. so, want to hire a volunteer editorial writer to your website for 30 days? or dont want to go down in a blaze with me? lol. the shit i got saved man. the double standards. the abuse of power. I must be the only one willing to stand idly by. i heard someone say they went to kali yesterday and there was 20 people online. I'd rather be in lobby of 20 than a lobby of 2000 with power hungry mods that squelch the freedom of speech at every given oportunity. then get mad for something you say when they tell you that you do not have permission to say their name in chat? are you f***ing kidding me? i will move to kali and recruit aggressively from cncnet when i get back. i will go ehy on his ass and start funneling players to a server that offers RA, ehy did it with tunngle for financial reasons i'm sure; my reasoning is not selfish tho, my reasoning is playing RA and talking in chat without fear of persecution shouldn't be an EITHER/OR thing. this s**t aint right. (and after he told me i couldnt say his name anymore, he had the audacity to use my name in chat? like you think im gonna let u say my name after u said i cant say your name? your fucked in the head man!) then i asked him if his real name was claudia or jenny? ill call you by your real name if that will keep me from getting banned. but to tell me im banned if i say ROSSI? who the f**k does ROSSI think SHE is? lol. the answer: an untouchable. he's untouchable from any justice. so are his cronies.

i'm going to offer you the message i was typing out to ferret while i was banned for hours. i never sent it because i knew it would be another ban. plus haven't heard a word from ferret since he did it. rossi, on the other hand, loves to chirp. lives for it. maddux was messaging me on facebook that i should just not talk to him. "it's like me and steel going back at each other for years.. after awhile it just gets stupid so i just say f**k it and don't even talk or acknowledge him anymore.. can't you do that?"
and putting every single admin on ignore seems like the only option when i get back. i shoulda just went rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi rossi until he banned me a day instead of a month.

what would you do? if someone said you will be banned for saying a name? I'd call bulls**t on that, whether i was the one about to be banned or not. maybe next step is banned for not tying your shoes? i mean come on, im not the type can let sycophantic psycho's just get by with anything. so ignore function is only hope.

First of all, Nyerguds[work], it was nice talking to you, and a quite refreshing change of pace to hear actual intelligence sporadically make its way out of the fingertips of an "admin" at this nazi institution you "guys" call CNCNET5...i use the term "guys" loosely, as u could probably tell by the airquotes...as to not accidentally infer the new number 1 target of my diatribes has any balls, cuz he just proved he has less testicular fortitude than Rossi...ferret, hither forth referred to as simply The Lil B**ch Admin: "Oh break, I know u have been asking for 3-4 hours if there are any mods/admins that could assist you in making someone comply with the CNCNET by-laws (hither forth refered to as "LMAO, you thought YOU were going to MAKE US? Do Something? Do ANYTHING? For YOU? Bahahaha. Those rules are there for US, not YOU, b**ch.) But Break, I cant ban anyone impersonating a member of your clan, i'm JUST an OP...oh wait...did u just tell me that i would have to s**k Rossi to be able to ban YOU?...oh REALLY?...WATCH this S**T...*Sound of Super Mario eating a mushroom* ferret suddenly transformed into Big,Bad Here-To-Serve-CNCNET-Justice Ferret^ with a Hammer (which looks strikingly similar to a Tiny,Scrawny Here-To-Service-Rossi-So-I-Can-Learn-Magic-IRC-Tricks ferret) and as his non-threatening punk self whispered something about 30 mins (which turned out to be several hours) I couldn't help but think, you f***ing yuppie f***tards...Maybe you could of done THIS to the a**hole that was "breaking the rules" and promoting impersonation / slander / harrassment of a clan (which someone else had already did just hours before and now look, because you did nothing about it the 1st time, it's catching on like wildfire now) And maybe you wouldn't have goaded me into saying something a bit corrosive? You guys had a blast watching me squirm while it pissed me off that u wouldn't ban somebody that was blatantly disrespecting the rules right in front of you. I cant believe i made it 3 hours of chat until i finally said something to ban me. You f***ing egotistical morons. Watch out ORA-RA168UK, you are in line to become this. I've met very few admins that didn't turn out to be total assholes. Lovehandles was right there at a friend level, but he has got tired of cncnet too it seems, he hasnt been on in forever. Nyerguds actually engaged in hours of discussion, but he too said he didnt have the ability to kick the guy faking an ORA- name. When in fact he did, he kicked me before ferret did. His kick was of the 1 min variety tho. The rest have been miserable little trolls their whole lives, up to the point when they were in a position of power over something that other people appeared to value and be thankful for. That's why I dont mind being made an example of, because maybe by example it will cause someone else to wake up. And say, um, are these admins serious? Oh! U got me good by playing Possum-Admin for hours and smiting me instead of dealing with the 1st asshole! Grow up. It's a f***ing game, and a f***ing chat room. F***ing pu**ys. And if you are going to aggressively enforce the rules of allowed speech in a chat room, do it with SpamServ, so that it is automatic and not biased. Oh wait you guys already are and its still not enough. because i didn't use one curse word in the sentence that got me banned 1-2 months. I guess when i return, MURDER and RAPE will be the new keywords that get you auto-banned? THEY BETTER F**KING BE. And you know what else? They better get EVERYONE else banned 1-2 months when THEY say it in chat. Otherwise, discipline in chat is based on favoritism (whether or not a ban-worthy offense actually gets enforced) and "record" i guess (Break's been banned alot, they are starting to make them progressively longer, watch out repeat offenders!) Enforcement should not be "you're banned a day, you're banned a week, and YOU, is that Break approaching the bench of my courtroom? SWEET JESUS, IT IS! The day I have been waiting for! Smite smite smite smite smite smite. Oh and ferret, I'm still ahead of both of you and Rossi in your poll with me, 2-0-1, looks like u banning me didn't overly impress anyone but maybe your boyfriend.

here's the link for that poll.... http://www.strawpoll.me/10599800/r  break rossi or ferret?
this one should be ahead of it tho.... http://www.strawpoll.me/10599853/r  dictatorship?
i think they should be front page on ra1guides
here's a few more (funky said we should poll the lobby and see...)

Does Break deserve 30 day ban...

http://www.strawpoll.me/10637532/r

Do you think rossi was correct to threaten to ban ORA-Breakdown if he said Rossi's name in chat one more time?

http://www.strawpoll.me/10637489/r

dope was beefing with me hard before i got banned, i think even we will get along when i get back. he was one of the ones that was saying it wasn't right what was going on when i got banned for more than a day the 1st time.

anywho, questions/comments/concerns? I give you permission to post any and all of this email as the answer to the last question of my interview for your website if would like. Or you could just put "KALI was and still is the best place to play Red Alert, it just has fewer players". originally, my response was going to be a chart with the places i have played Red Alert at (dial-up, Mplayer, GameSpy, Kali, Tunngle, CncNet) then pro's and con's about each. CNCNET was going to get some thumbs up's that the other places didnt, but most of those were due to updates in technology through time and not due to CNCNET being an awesome, cool, chill place to play. it was going to have a lot more thumbs down's than thumbs up's. and it gets more thumbs down's by the day."

 ORA-Boy

Favorite Map: Northern Hatu

Favorite Tank: Medium Tank

Favorite Strategy: I like to rush first. If I feel I'm in trouble on my first rush I try not to waste all my tanks. I will regroup and quickly build a larger group of tanks and send them to the base. Teslas don't stand a chance against a good tanker.

Certified PRO: Yes.

What do you recommend for the next generation of PROS?

<ORA-boy> I suggest take the time to learn the keyboard. There are so many things you can do on your keyboard to help you win games like grouping, shifting, Q, Formation, just to name a few. Also, take as much advice from better players. Don't be shy to ask for help because that's exactly what I did.

TO THE COMMUNITY:

"This game has a big place in my heart. I started playing this game when I was only 8 years young and now I'm 28. I've seen ALL of the great players who have ever played this game and I hope the game never dies. That would be very sad and it almost happened 3 times. Another thing I want to to say is: Win or Lose, there will always be another game. But hopefully you will win more! GG's to all!"

Resolutions

An Introduction to Different Screen Resolutions

"Which RES do u have?" --- If u know your personal resolution in use, but cannot say, why u use it, the general section of this article may hopefully be informative for u to check on it. If u cannot answer this question at all, this article might be a must-read for u.

Res or resolution describes the size of your game screen (length x width). The jungle of possible resolutions and associated setting changes to choose, is overwhelming. How to choose a well-fitting one, is the question, this guide tries to help answering:

1. Most commonly used Resolutions - Typology

In the settings menu, besides useful other options, u will find the most common used Resolutions: 640x400, 640x480 as the two originals, a mid res 800x600 and two high res 1024x768, 1280x720 - right here --------------->

Alongside those predefined ones, u have also the optionality to make a customized resolution, meaning: u can stretch and scale the original resolutions, to fit better to your needs and home-screen - here ---------------->

Pressing the button "Detect resolution" will most of the times result in a very high res, which may be useful for spectating a game, but not for playing it.

A minor size change u can do, when u not want to play in full-screen mode, by option on the up-right menu side windowed mode. For example, when u see a res like 640x479, the -1 may only refer to such a minor change.

However, generally the resolutions are typologized into the two original 640x-s, which are considered as low res. Accordingly, the 800x res could be named mid res, the 1024x as a high res and all above this as a very high res.
Now the question is: Which Resolution U should use? Which one is best?

The answer is: It´s a player´s decision individually to make. Plenty of different opinions and res-in-use u will find. All this introducing guide wants to achieve, is help u to make your own reasoning.

Good news: You won´t be able to use all of these (and those down mentioned) resolutions anyway! Which res are supported, depends on twice: your home hardware (screen size, inches) and software system (Windows, Mac, Linux). U simply cannot use every single resolution by all PCs and Laptops. The RedAlert-Program is kind enough, to not even let u start a game - error will occur -, if u dare to select an unsupported res-setting. The decision, out of your supported ones, which one to take, is now individual to u.
And anticipating the guide´s moral: Resolution is not a pro-skill itself, but a manifestation, of what a kind of player u are or want to become. Your resolution should support your style of playing RedAlert.

As another approach, four screenshot examples of different resolutions:

640x400: |x|mafia @Platinum Medal

640x480: RC_ @p4

800x600: yuz|MAN| @p4

1280x720: Ferret @KOTG

Speaking general. Most newcomers nowadays tend to use a high resolution to see most of the map, see the happening, try to get along with their enemies, even get hectic, while try to deal with the multitasking game play RA requires. The more used to all u get, the more u can be classified into the main strategy divisions: U either are more tank-orientated and like to Q, or more build-orientated and need some more overview. The first group´s majority prefers lower resolutions, and the second seems to favorite mid ones. However, prominent examples show exceptions: There are low-res super-builders, and there are high-res goldmedal-winners out there. See, it´s individual!

Despite considerably individual factors, of course one can argue PROs and CONs about those degrees from low to high resolutions in a more general manner. Meaning, how do the resolutions effect several aspects of the game play, some of them u need more as a tanker and some more as a builder:

2. Resolution´s Effects on your gameplay - Generalisms

2.1. Map Overview

The higher your res, the better is your map overview in general, u simply see more at the same time, without scrolling around. This benefit in overview supports a more macro-oriented play style. However, when it comes to close 1x1 battles including every single tank or unit, so-called micro-management, higher res is considerably in a disadvantage.

Reversed, this means: The lower your res, the more u need to scroll through the map, to see, what is going on - or by using the bookmark-hotkeys. But on the other hand u can much better focus on such a close battle.

2.2. Sidebar Slots

The higher your res, the more slots for buildings and units u have in your sidebar at the same time, without scrolling it up or down. With this goes a much easier multi-production hand in hand, because u can produce your next building, while producing infantry and vehicles - all the same time with out sidebar-scrolling.
A minus point is the risk of more misclicks, just because each slot is much smaller, so the possibility of clicking on wrong production field is significantly higher.

So, the lower your res, the more u need to scroll your sidebar up-down, if u want to produce units simultaneously or start another sort of production. Advanced players bypass this disadvantage in not (!) using their mouse and the arrow-buttons to scroll up-down, but do do it by mouse-wheeling or using the hotkeys D and F for KeySidebarUp and -Down. The big plus with low res and slots is: The slots are fewer, but much bigger. Misclicking is much more unlikely.

2.3. Scrolling

As a result of overview and slots, u can say about scrolling in general: The lower your res, the more scrolling is needed, including a trained usage of more hotkeys. While hotkeys speed up the clicking in the sidebar and via bookmarks on the map; u can also change the scroll-speed of your cursor in the RA settings. So using a lower res does not mean to slow down your game play at all.

Side note: Whenever u change your Resolution for testing it, try to change the mouse sensitivity on scrolling speed as well. Maybe "fix scroll" and "auto scroll" in game-options may help u find your best scroll-speed as well.

2.4. Mouse movings: Selecting, Targeting and Building

Closely related to scrolling is the mouse sensitivity and moving speed - regarded now without scrolling, just moving on current screen. U can change it too, through your mouse settings - not RA settings.
The importance of a well-moving mouse cursor effects fundamental aspects of the game: The time u need from map-ground to your sidebar to click a new production; the accuracy u can click a ready-building to set it on map-ground; the selecting of a single unit or a group and the targeting. All four aspects relate themselves to your chosen resolution:

The lower your resolution, the "bigger" units seem to be and the "shorter" seems the way, your cursor needs from place A to B. Both aspects have enormous effect on your overall play-speed: Faster targeting, clearer targeting, better selecting, faster building, more accurate building placement and overall a higher production rate of units.

Side note: Of course, the better u can target an enemy tank, the better u may use your Q on it.

2.5. Results

The list of PROs and CONs on different resolutions is long and complex. Although, the majority of tanking players are dedicated to a low-res, or even the lowest res, u can have a reasoning to use a slightly higher one. For example, a tank-to-build strategy.
If u are more a building player a mid or high resolution may probably fit better, because of the overview-advantage. But, this overview seems to get unhelpful, when it comes down to accuracy and speed. So, most advanced builders seem to prefer a mid res - besides prominent exceptions.

Whatever u choose as a resolution, should be thought-through wisely, but whatever u decide, your resolution is a manifestation, of what a kind of player u are or want to become. Your resolution should support your style of playing RedAlert.

So find your best-fitting resolution!

Additional Advice?

3. Some Advanced Player´s Voices - Individualisms

To not make this guide too theoretical and speculative, I asked a well-sorted range of very experienced players to give us their point of view on res-concerning questions. Although, some answers may give a similar reasoning, u ´ll find as well exceptions based on an individual decision-making:

3.1. |NC|-Lauta

Which Res do u use? 640x400.
Have u tested others? Yes, I started playing in 1024x768, then I changed to 640x480, then 800x600 and now 640x400.
What are positive points on your Res? This is the best Res to tank and build for me. The bigger resolutions are,  the harder it is to Q. Good of big Res it is, to see more of the map. But on lowest Res u can make all units the fastest and u have no need to move much with the mouse to find anything.
What may be negative ones? That u can't see the whole screen, but if u use bookmarks correctly: all OK.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? Many Pros use 640x400, but if u aren't interested in Q moves and u only want to build: 800x600 is very good. But only by playing, u can find out the best res for u.

3.2. yuz|MAN|

Which Res do u use? 800x600.
Have u tested others? Yes, 640x400 originally. Played for years this lowest Res, as there were no others (note: Meaning before High-Resolution Patch). 640x480 as better, filled more of the screen. 1024x768 showed even more map, but i get noticably slower. 800x600 sweet spot; worse Q than lower Res, but I see more of the field. I sometimes - when Q-battle-ing - go back to 640x480 by the way.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? For people, who focus on Q, I recommend 640x400. For allrounders like me, 800x600 is sweet spot for a more strategical view and more production options at the same time.
Add-on. And last thing about 800x600: it´s good for video recording, looks good on YouTube :) .

(side note: yuz is an exceptional example, because i am unsure but quite clear same time, he is the only old school pro, who higher-ed his res.)

3.3. ORA-Boy

Which Res do u use? 640x480.
Have u tested others? I used to play 640x400 for 17 years, before switching to x480. When I am spec-ing, I like to use 1024x768.
What are positive points on your Res? It gives you the largest, most playable screen to view. It´s difficult to Q correct on anything above 640x480. I use a lower Res, because i can pin point, which tank I'm going to kill in battle. I like tank fights, so having the best view on each tank i´m going after is key.
What may be negative ones? The only negative point I have is a lot of scrolling, but that has always been part of the game anyway. But on a higher resolution, you have far less scrolling from the one I use. If I was a builder, I might use a higher resolution.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? The only tips I could give is try them all and the resolution that helps you play the most comfortable, is the one you should use.

(side note: boy is a very good example for a longtime playing old school-pro like many, who never really changed res, because it was impossible before the so-called high-res-patch.)

3.4. Ferret

Which Res do u use? 1280x720.
Have u tested others? Yeah, I used to use 800x600. Anything below that, I felt like I just couldn't see much.
What are positive points on your Res? I can see a lot more, and I'm able to multi-task, without having to move the screen too much. It makes it easier to control units within a smaller area, as well as controlling multiple tank groups too.
What may be negative ones? Yeah, I think for someone to use a higher resolution. You'll need very precise mouse movements and control. This is especially relevant on ore maps, where units are very important. I think, having really good micro is definitely needed for a higher resolution like this. It can also make your mouse hand a lot more tired, than what you're probably used to. Especially since you have to move back and forth so far between making units, and micro-ing your units.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? I personally think, that all players should find what's most comfortable for them to play at. But I think, a good rule of thumb to get started is, that if you like to play with a high sensitivity on your mouse, play on a smaller resolution as units and icons are much larger. While vice versa, if you're going to play at a higher resolution, I would recommend getting used to having a slower sensitivity.

3.5. C|ommander

Which Res do u use? 800x600.
Have u tested others? I started with 1600x900, then lowered it down to 1024x768. And when i decided to train for Goldmedal-Challenge, i had to use my current 800-res for better precision. I tried also the pro-res 640x400/480, but i must admit, that impacts too much a fast building towards enemy.
What are positive points on your Res? My current Res is a good (for me personally) compromise: can be used for either fast building and solid tanking.
What may be negative ones? When it comes to real Q-battles versus real low-res-pros, then i might have some disadvantages.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? I think, newcomers should first try the high Res, to get familiar with all available units. Once you decide to either improve on tanking or building, then u should lower your res to the most suitable one.
So, which Res u recommend for newcomers? 1024.

3.6. UFF-Brasil

Which Res do u use? 640x480.
Have u tested others? No, i always played this.
What are positive points on your Res? Have greater accuracy at the click speed and replacement of units and structures.
What may be negative ones? Not much map view, you should be aware all the time, that u can be surprised.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? The two smaller resolution 640x480 or 640x400 is the best for any player, independent of each style, builder or tanker.

3.7. [Croboy-DP]

Which Res do u use? 800x600.
Have u tested others? Yeh, but this 1st number 4me.
What are positive points on your Res? Used it since Goldmedal, feels comfortable.
What may be negative ones? No neg Points.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? Set up your hand to one resolution, then stick to it! Don't change, or it will fuck up your game style of playing!

3.8. |GA|-Spartan/Arina

Which Res do u use? 640x400.
Have u tested others? I used to play 800x600, then had tested one time 640x400. Wasn't ready of this small res that time. Changed to 640 recently.
What are positive points on your Res? I just got used to it, but first i played on 1280x800. Just, the smaller the resolution, the more convenient to produce units and faster in general u are, because less movements with the mouse.
What may be negative ones? No, all good.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? I think, the main thing you need to do: to get used eyes and hands to lower resolutions, but you need to force yourself to play on low resolution, even if it does not work! But then, after a while, still get used to it more and more and you´re becoming good.

3.9. C|Gyuszika

Which Res do u use? 1024x768
Have u tested others? For Goldmedal i needed smaller screen and took 800x, cause easier to get target. But when i use low screen, i don't see money, so i stick to a bigger monitor.
What are positive points on your Res? I see a lot in game, and can focus better.
What may be negative ones? Pixel problem sometimes, and harder to enemy´s tanks.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? I think, new players need a big res first, so they can focus and see all action.

3.10. ORA-AndrewF

Which Res do u use? 640x400 or 640x480.
Have u tested others?  I tried 800x600 and 1024x764, they were nice for beginning, because I could see more of the map. Makes it easier to defend rushes, but harder to click on tanks for actual Q.
What are positive points on your Res? For my low res, i get faster production and tanking, less misclicks because there is less distance the mouse needs to move.
What may be negative ones? The disadvantage is the low field of view, so having good map awareness goes along with it.
Any hints for players, how to find the best-fitting Res? Try experimenting with whatever resolution you are most comfortable with. But i do recommend 640x400 for the superior production, and it trains you to be more aware of the map. Less mouse distance, when moving it.

On Building (by mafia)

Building is an underestimated skill that many think is easier than tanking. Who hasn't seen a pro write ''building is for noobs who cannot tank'' ? The way i see it, anyone who says that hasn't achieved the supreme skill of building yet. Even though i agree that a super pro tanker will beat a super pro builder in 1v1 on many maps but there are a bunch of maps where a pro builder has the opportunity to beat a pro tanker who can't build (hjk6 and v3 rashowdown for example only to name a few). So In my opinion being a pro tanker isn't enough for being a legend in redalert your building skill should be as good as your tanking.

Being a Pro builder isn't just learning an effective building order but demands strategic thinking, good timing and experience. There are quite a few different build orders but they only differ at the very start.

a) CY'ing with 1 war
b) CY'ing with 2 war
c) CY'ing with 3 war

CY'ing with 1 war factory:

Is in many situations helpful if the map is small and the enemy can rush you so early with 3-4 tanks that you don't have your first tesla ready by the time he arrives. Note that after you stop his first rush attack to build the 2nd war factory right away because CY'ing up on 1 war factory isn't a solution on the long run.

CY'ing with 2 war factories:

is the most common way and most people use this. It doesn't mean that this is the best method. Remember a true PRO doesn't have a one formula for everything, you need to understand that timing is so important in Redalert and that you should learn all possible methods then use the one that suits the game situation the best. When you CY with 2 war factories you can't afford to lose any time while placing your first buildings because each second counts, you need your tesla ready as soon as you can before the enemy makes it to your base with his first rush.

CY'ing with 3 war factories:

can be very useful in some situations and maps. I don't recommend to build the 3d war factory right after selling the service depot. A better way is to make a tesla at start and see if you're getting rushed, if the enemy gave you some time and was a little late with his rush or is building then you make a quick 3d war factory to speed up your process of CY'ing fully up (10 CYs for max building speed).

These are the 3 most common Build starters. 1) However to become a pro builder you need to be good at choosing the right method for the right situation and to become FAST and GOOD at it. This is only the start remember that in a game when one is building usually it will turn to a long game. 2) The second skill you need to become a pro builder is to understand and learn the Key elements of building and 3) You need to learn how to proceed from there on in order to win the game. Most newbies who want to learn building get stuck here, they get the build right but discover they have no f*cking clue what to do next. It is of great importance to have a plan and i'll talk more in about this. In the next section i will discuss the key elements that one needs to learn to become a pro builder and after that a plan how to proceed after your startup build on 'limited money maps' and 'unlimited money maps'.

Key elements of Building :

1) Teslas

Tesla Positioning: The most powerful weapon of a builder. Teslas damage tanks and when you have enough they can stop any rushes and tank attacks. Its important to place the Teslas at the right position and not put them too close to each other. They should be apart so that when the tanks finish killing one, they need to drive to shoot the next one, in this period of time the tesla will have time to shoot the tanks. Also when the enemy shoots a tesla and you're placing a new one, don't place it next to the one he's shooting! put it somewhere where the tesla will still reach him but he can't reach. So i hope you're starting to get the idea by now. Another good way of defending with tesla is to put it behind other buildings, the enemy's tank will get scattered if he passes through the buildings to attack the tesla and he will do less damage to the tesla in some cases he won't even be able to reach the tesla and he will need to kill the buildings that are blocking him first so in that time your teslas would have done a lot of damage to his tanks. When defending your partner's CY on a 2v2 on P4 put ur first tesla behind his CY a little bit south if possible, in my experience this is one of the best spots at start because it is close enough to shoot enemy tanks and will not only defend partner's CY but also some of his war factories. Notice though that the enemy will now start shooting other buildings for example your partner's war factories that are placed at some position the tesla can't reach or they will try to outQ your partner's tanks and then it will be easy to kill your teslas, so your job as a builder is to get to a front position and start placing the new teslas next to your partners tanks and protect the front buildings.

Shifting Teslas: When Tesla fighting, a pro builder will use several teslas and command them to shoot a target at the same time, this way the target will get hit by several Teslas and destroyed quicker. This is very useful in Tesla fights, you select 2-3-4 Teslas and shoot the enemy Tesla with them.
To do this you click on the first tesla, hold down the shift button and click on all the teslas you want to group then you can release the shift botton for example click tesla1, hold shift, click tesla 2, tesla 3, tesla 4. Now you have them grouped and you target the enemy Tesla. With time you will learn to be quick at tesla fighting and push the enemy till he surrenders.

Tesla south advantage: From South teslas have one square range fire advantage. So when Tesla fighting a Pro will use this advantage and push the enemy from a South position.

2) Power Supply

Its so important to have enough Power for your teslas. so i recommend always to have more advanced powers than you really need just in case the enemy attacks them. When you notice your power is barely enough for your teslas and the enemy is attacking them, cancel whatever you're building and start building powers right away. Don't place the new advanced powers where he is already shooting! put them somewhere in the back of the base where he can't reach.

3) Infantry or rocket men

To  have a solid defense teslas alone won't stop a good rusher because it takes a pro only 2 tanks to kill a tesla. What u need is many infantry or rockets to support your tesla. place the infantry there where they will do most damage to the rushing tanks. Remember to scatter them when tanks try to smash them

4) Scouting

Scouting is a must for every player its so important for the builder to have a view over the map if possible on all 4 corners, the mid and the sides. The reason is to find out if the enemy is building or tanking and if he's tanking to see where he is coming from to attack you and to focus your defense there before he reaches you. Most of the times you will notice if you see any tanks near his base when you managed to scout him or when his tanks are trying to squish your grenadiers thats a sign that he's tanking. Another reason to scout the map is for taking control over the map ore/gems in limited money maps.

5) Money management

When you're building you need good money because a solid defense is expensive. I recommend to make an ore truck at the very start. On unlimited ore maps a good time to build the second ore refinery is after you are fully built. On gem maps the second ore refinery must be built sooner a good general rule is that don't let your cash get lower than 2000-3000 so when your cash gets low around that margin do the second ore refinery. If you're total newb there are some tutorial on this site about money management, read them first.

6) Engenieers

I know you're nodding your head and i have to disappoint you if you thought building is easy. Building isn't something for lazy people and if you chose building over tanking thinking its easier than you should rethink your options again. So in order to defend the enemy attack beside tesla and infantry you need to save your important buildings with engineers. Something pro's like to do is to put a few engineers next to the CY, Tesla and Ore refinery. Once you know which building the enemy is going to attack you get your engineer ready and tell him to repair that building. Remember to repair teslas with engineers. It takes time to master the engineer skill but it is for me one of the most important skills in this game.

7) Repair

Repairing your buildings is so imporant. Most of the times your engenieers won't even make it in time to fix your building if you dont repair it first ! I cant stress enaugh how important it is that you have the repair key prepared to repair the building the enemy is gonna shoot. Repair Teslas, CY's, Powers, Ore refinerys, even silos! By repairing you dont only save the building but you gain time, the more time you have the more you can invest in your defense and building teslas. Use the hotkey 'T' for fast repair, every pro builder should use this hotkey for fast repair.

8) Sell

Not only to piss the enemy off, when the building he's shooting is almost dead, you should sell it right away. This will give you money that you will need in many maps to re-invest in new teslas and building. Specially a CY is a building that will give you lot of cash when sold. Selling buildings is also important when the enemy destroyed the builder's ore refinery and he has no money to build a new one. Its so important you sell the buildings you need the least in this situation. Do this fast and build a new Ore refinery! Dont sell the teslas if you're getting rushed! Sell a cy instead and a war factory for example. In other situations when your base defense is solid and your ore refinery gets migged, dont sell CY'S in this case, Sell the buildings u need the less for example the extra teslas you have. Use the hotkey 'Z' to sell a building.

9) Bookmarks

Based on popular belief, many players think that Bookmarking is only useful for tankers. WROOONG! A pro builder would use a bookmark on his war factory for example to CY up, and a second bookmark where his defense is happening. This will increase the speed of defending and the speed of deploying his CYS. An other example would be to put a bookmark in the back of the base to build Power supply there and bookmark 2 where he is doing defense. On maps like p4 the builder would expand to the enemy's base and use the second bookmark for example on that area to switch between CYng and expanding towards the enemy.

a) Bookmark1 on War factory - Bookmark2 on Defense area
b) Bookmark1 on Back of your Base - Bookmark2 on Defense area
c) Bookmark1 on War factory - Bookmark 2 Towards enemy Base (In this example you will have to re-setup bookmark2 everytime you get a little closer to the enemyBase when building towards him)

10) Map Scroll

Although Bookmarks are a must, replacing them over map scroll is a big mistake. Because when using bookmarks you don't see what's going on over the whole map. Its very important to look and scroll around the map to see if the enemy is attacking you and how far he is from your base. This is very crucial at the beginning to see if the enemy is coming to rush you, with how many tanks and from which side. With that information you can place your Tesla at the correct position and use your infantry and tell them to move where they are needed.

11) Offensive/Passive play

What many unexperienced builders do wrong and don't know is the passive role they get stuck in. Defending is so important but spending the whole game in a passiv state only keeps you at distance of achieving your goal of winning the game. As a builder you should play an offense style, trying to enter the enemy base or to make him weak by pushing with teslas and tanks/v2s. Its bad though to get too offensive and to ignore the defense as a good opponent doesn't like to be pushed around the whole game and will try to attack and get into your base aswel. A Pro builder will learn to switch between Offensive and Defensive play using bookmarks. I'd recommend a 60%-40% balance (Offense-Defense).

12) Tanking

Once you have successfully defended the first/second attack, your base is secure and you are fully built, you should start tanking. You should decide now what units are most suitable for your situation: V2s, Heavy Tanks or Mammoths. Build them at max production speed!

V2s: Basically once a builder is fully built (Sometimes before that) he will make more factories till he has 5 of them and start producing v2's at max speed. V2's are good in long games and a builder should only start building them if his defense (Teslas and partner tanks) is solid enough to defend the enemy tanking attack. Otherwise its better to produce heavy tanks in situations when you are defending in a 1v2 situation or your partner has lost many war factories and doesn't have enough tanks to defend with your teslas. However when you know your Teslas and partners tanks can handle the attack of the enemy you should do v2s before the enemy does them, this will give you advantage in a long game since you can push early when the enemy didn't stabilize yet or is starting to CY up.

V2s shouldn't be placed too near to enemy teslas and in a tesla fighting game you should always move your V2s to the best position where they can reach enemy teslas. I see so many players build v2s but just park them in the back of the base or near the war factory without using them. A Pro builder knows exactly where to put the v2s and when to move them and when not. A good way to shift v2s is to bring them to the area you're tesla fighting and once they're there you should select them all and hit the ''S'' button. This will avoid your front v2s getting too close to enemy Teslas and getting zapped. After the front v2's have the best possible position to shoot, you can select the v2s that are behind and bring them closer to the v2s in the front to keep them compact.

Heavy Tank: specially when Hybrid building heavy tanks are the best choice, but in some situations also when doing a full build (10 CYS). As i mentioned earlier when the teslas can't stop the enemy attack alone and you have not stabilized or your partner's tanks aren't enough to stop the enemies then you should make heavy tanks instead of v2s.

Mammoth Tanks: Mammoth tanks are powerful and in my experience a good weapon when playing against an allies. They are not only good to defend air attack (Helis) but are far stronger than medium tanks. I've found mammoth most useful in 2v2 games against two Allies. I don't recommend Mammoths in a long 1v1 or 2v2 game against soviets unless the enemy is tanking aswel and you have some advantage over him. The downside for Mammoths is that you need 12 war factories for maximum production speed, plus mammoths move very slow on ground.

13) Speed

Something all Pro's agree on is that he who builds the most units the fastest wins. This is also true for a builder. The builder must be fast in defense and in getting fully built. Another thing he must be fast at is his tank production (v2s) when in a long game. Generally many tankers are very fast producers in the first 10 to 20 mins of a game but the longer the game gets the weaker their production. The builder is a master in not only short games but in long games aswel. For a builder the fun really begins when the fun stops for tankers. When the game turns to a long game the builder will show his strength in indurance. As a pro builder you gotta outproduce the rest of the players in a long game. This is a skill that will take the most time to develop but with time and practice every committed builder will get there.

14) Iron Curtain & Nuclear bomb

those two buildings are essential in every pro 2v2 but also in 1v1. The Atomic bomb is used by many pro's to destroy the enemy's v2s in a long game or his Advanced power. The iron curtain serves for a similar purpose but its not only limited to that. So basically you place a tesla near the enemy's v2's and put the iron curtain on the Tesla before the v2s shoot it, this will make your tesla live longer and kill many enemy v2s. You can also use the Iron curtain once you enter the enemy base put it on one tesla and proceed crawling in. You get the idea.

15) Chinook

In a Chinook attack the builder may use engineers to capture the enemy's building and aggressively destroy his CY's and ore refineries with teslas. When they capture the enemy's building some pro's also aim at the enemy's Power supply in the back of the base and once the enemy notices that he's being attacked its very hard for him to defend due to low power supply. Many use the Chinook engineer attack as a last resort to turn a loss into a win but it can be used successfully way earlier in a game. A builder should be aware that other builders like to use this powerful technique aswel and therefor prepare a solid defense against chinook attacks. Typically a player who hasn't been noticeable in game for a few minutes is preparing a chinook attack therefor a chinook master will prepare the chinook attack bit by bit and minimize his absence in game to remain unnoticeable.
---------

So now with all this information you need to learn by applying this in your game and by watching the pros. Dont worry though im not leaving you clueless and will give you some ideas how to proceed when you're fully built.

1) on Gem maps:

a) Long term goal : Your long term goal is to get in control of the gems in the map, because the player who has the most money will win in a long game.

b) Actual goal: So with your long term goal in the back of your mind (and it is has priority) you need to try to win the game earlier by defending the enemy attack and countering. Your goal is to make the opponent weaker bit by bit or by crushing him with one strong counter. It depends how strong the enemy is and how failed his rush attack was. Builders aren't necessary pro tankers but a Pro builder should learn to produce tanks like a tanker and use these to supplement his teslas because defending your base the whole game won't make you win.

A combination of the long term goal (Money&map control) and short term goals (successful defense, countering and pushing the enemy) are an essential strategy for every pro builder. Whatever is done in the game is to accomplish this goal.

Note that if the other player is building too than you should spend as little time as possible  at the start on defense and focus instead on being offensive.

2) on Infinite money maps:

Those maps are a lot easier for building and the basic idea is simple. Push push push !

depending on what map you're playing, i ll take p4 as an example to illustrate how to proceed once you're fully built.

once the enemy's rush has been stopped. the next step to take is to build toward's the opponent's base and push as hard as you can. make sure your tank/v2 production is at max speed. As you move forward with Advanced powers toward the enemy once you're close enaugh you should start tesla crawling to weaken the front player. Another option is to enter their base from north. Which ever suits better the situation. there are two ways of winning:

a) you push the enemy so far behind till you reach his ore refineries and cy's then finish him.

b) you sneak into his base without him noticing (or notices too late) and kill his cy's + ore

you'll want to try both.

Remember this guide doesn't cover every single aspect in depth. Part 2 of this tutorial should be part of another guide maybe but the basic ideas of it should give your imagination a boost ;-).Building is such a highly individual skill that making more general assumptions is tough. However, the general ideas and elements of pro-building should be more clear by now.

Good luck.

3 Years later

3 Years later ......

... after its last published article on 5/31/2021 and an offline period: We are back in business! Over the years many wishes of a re-upload have been spoken to me. History shall not be lost and helpful guides not be unfindable.

Ready to clean up the dust, ready to remove the rust and update the guides and contents. This blog originated out of Thunderbolt`s blog Afo-Redalert-Guides, 2017 it was rebranded under redalert.one (which is now held under Russian webpage holding). All rights remained, all texts have been kept. Around 2015 a very noobish contributor named Clausewitz was invited to write some articles.

His journey of becoming less noob –– long before even nowadays being finished –– lead into some investigations of the mechanics of redalert and the process of learning manifested in a bunch of articles. Examply, the one on the mechanics and geometry of q-ing remains up till now the most comprehend and total one. After its airing it resulted in an explosion of so-called goldmedal holders after successfully finishing the q-medalmap challenge. As a result of this, the medalmap underwent a great reset and it deflated the amount of medals holders.

Around this time, a player called AndrewFord re-discovered a tanking technique of guarded q-ing gq and the redalert world went upside down in learning and mastering this new skill, which allowed in range automated multi target attacking of your tanks. This blog published the first (!) gq-guide, which at that time was outstanding –– since no one dared to share own findings widely, and information was only disclosed behind whispering hands and amongst game-bros. Since that period many more investigations have been made, mostly by N8diaz, who named his advanced version sgq, which includes a stopp command for better control of the tank group. He also published a guide in a video description of it. More would be to add to this storyline, but later...

However, in the last months sometimes i say to players after a game, that the normal q won this match. How? In small numbers, less then 10, surely around 3-5 tanks normal q-skills is far far superior in killing the enemy tank. But the once available guides were for in the meanwhile upcoming players not available any more. I catched myself telling players to q-down or to q-backwards, but those expressions didn't really mean anything anymore. "And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth." (/quote).

Another example of lost evidence is the basic fact of south advantage, that Tesla attack range and tank fire range is +1 square, if the Tesla or tank is south. That was 5 years ago so common knowledge as to say the grass is green. I used to make fun of Tanja for believing in north advantage –– and it was considered a joke. Nowadays newcomers fight with you about those facts.

Once newer players got sent a link to this guides, but now there is just a brit's redalert page left, which topics always circle around the same people with the same insults and jokes and mockery. Andrewford deleted his page, other blogs seem also more endangered of getting lost than contributing new stuff. There is a void ...

In connection to its history, lets start to revitalize this blog. Honest outreaching goes to all former contributors and clan leaders, who used to update their members here, to start again this nice and community sensible practice. What does this community win, if we have 10 lost blogs of individuals but not a commonplace of shared wisdom, tricks and skill?! The last blog version –– under the address: redalert.one –– had 16 contributing editors!

Welcome back Commanders!
